Misalignment is the deviation of the relative shaft position from a collinear axis of rotation measured at the point of power transmission when the machine is running at normal operating conditions. And when the shaft centerline of rotation of the machines are collinear or some cases are parallel, then it is called Alignment.

Also, alignment is the process of adjusting between to or more machines by inserting or removing shims from the different supports and by pushing or pulling the supports to make them collinear at the normal operating condition or some cases to maintain parallelism. Proper alignment is essential to run any machine smoothly.

Thanks!
